Mara is Jules’s girlfriend and housemate in Bellweather. She is a lesbian woman with warm brown skin, a blunt dark bob, tortoiseshell glasses and a rust cardigan. Her approved café portrait is the identity reference.
She designs printed matter for clients who say “just make it pop” and then object to every possible definition of pop. At home she labels drawers, including a drawer labeled LABELS.
Mara remembers Jules’s coffee order. Jules remembers which spreadsheet is secretly a date plan. This division of labor is constitutionally protected.
Her first response to a paradox is to measure the margins. Her second response is to make tea. Both have proved useful.
Belief: every anomaly has a layout explanation. Canon: she has not yet tested every anomaly. She keeps a distinction between a beautiful theory and a measurement.
